York's Wild Kingdom
York, Maine
York's Wild Kingdom is a combination zoo and amusement park located in York Beach, Maine that is visited by more than 200,000 people annually. This beautiful family-friendly park is situated on 25 acres amongst the surrounding forest and natural wetlands. The park offers 75 animal exhibits, nearly two-dozen amusement rides, two gift shops and multiple food concessions.
The zoo offers your chance to observe hundreds of species of wild animals and even interact with a few. Some of the animals on display at the zoo include a Bengal Tiger, African Lion, Red Kangaroo and a Black Bear. Animal interaction opportunities include a popular petting zoo, duck feeding, and a more unusual deer encounter.
Another popular exhibit in the zoo is York's Wild Butterfly Kingdom with a collection of many species of butterflies from South and Central America. This 5,500 square-foot culturally informative exhibit showcases some of the most beautiful insects in the world that come straight from a butterfly farm in Costa Rica.
York's Wild Kingdom's amusement park offers a collection of rides primarily appealing to families with smaller children. Youngsters will find nearly a dozen kiddie rides where only they may ride and parents remain sidelined.
Other popular rides include the Ferris wheel, bumper cars, merry-go-round, Scrambler, and spinning fun on the Super Spiral. Children can also experience their first roller coaster by taking a ride on the Wacky Mouse junior coaster, which can also accommodate adult riders.
Besides the rides, York's Wild Kingdom also has an 18-hole miniature golf course, batting cages, haunted house, a large arcade with video and redemption games, plus a variety of midway games, most of which are very reasonably priced.
