Lakemont Park
Altoona, Pennsylvania
Lakemont Park offers you a chance to relive the past and experience a different era of American amusement parks and offers affordable, safe fun for all ages. As the 8th oldest amusement park in the United States, the park began in 1894 as a trolley park. Today, Lakemont Park continues to entertain a new generation with 30 rides and attractions, including a water park and the world's oldest operating roller coaster.
The historic Leap the Dips is the park's signature attraction and claim to fame. This side friction roller coaster dates from 1902 and is the last of its kind in the United States. For years Leap the Dips came close to its demise, but after a multi-year restoration, this historic roller coaster reopened for a new generation of thrill-seekers in 1999.
The park also has many classic American amusement rides, including favorites like the Skyliner wooden coaster, a Ferris wheel, Twister, Toboggan coaster and Antique Cars. For young children there are more than half-a-dozen kiddie rides sized just right for first time riders.
During the warmer months the park's included water park offers you the chance to cool off. The Island Water Park has a Pirate Ship themed activity pool, kid-friendly water playgrounds, three thrilling waterslides and a large swimming pool for relaxing fun.
Besides amusement rides, there is an 18-hole miniature golf course, large arcade, multiple games of chance and the park serves up classic American fare, hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy and more at concession stands throughout. A number of outdoor covered pavilions are also available for groups of all kinds.
Parking and admission to Lakemont Park is free and rides are priced on a pay-one-price basis with select attractions (Leap the Dips, Go Karts, Paddle Boats, Miniature Golf) costing extra.
