Joyland Amusement Park
Lubbock, Texas
Joyland Amusement Park is a family-owned, traditional amusement park in Lubbock, Texas. The park began in 1940 as Mackenzie Park Playground until it was acquired by its current owner, and renamed Joyland in 1973.
The park offers affordable family fun and its midway features 30 rides, including three roller coasters and an antique Carousel that was built in the early 1900s. Popular family attractions include the Skyride, Train and Bumper Cars. Thrill-seekers can drop 140-feet at speeds of up to 50 miles-per-hour on the Dare Devil Drop or ride the zipping Galaxi roller coaster.
Joyland also has an assortment of classic amusement rides like the Mad Mouse roller coaster, Paratropper, Roll-O-Plane, Rock-O-Plane, Scrambler, Spider, Tilt-A-Whirl and Trabant.
Because of its location in Texas much of the midway is covered by a water mist system to keep visitors cool on hot summer days and nights, but the park also has three water rides to cool you off including the Big Splash water slide, Vortex water coaster and Wild River log flume ride.
If your children are young then they'll enjoy the seven kiddie rides, including a kiddie roller coaster.
Joyland opens in mid-March and remains open through early fall. The park operates on weekends and daily except Mondays during the summer months.
