Indiana Beach
Monticello, Indiana
There is more than just corn in Indiana.
Located on the shores of Lake Shafer is Indiana Beach Amusement Resort & Waterpark, the largest attraction of its kind in the state. The park dates back to 1926 when it opened under the moniker Ideal Beach and in 1947 the first permanent amusement rides were added.
Today, the park entertains more than 750,000 visitors annually with 40 exciting rides, six roller coasters, a water park, and more.
Indiana Beach's awesome roller coaster collection includes the Hoosier Hurricane, which was the first wooden coaster to be built in the state for more than 50 years when it opened in 1994. Others include the Cornball Express, Steel Hawg, Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain, and the park's first, the Galaxi.
One of the park's more notable attractions, The Shafer Queen paddlewheel boat arrived in 1961 and continues to take visitors for rides on Shafer Lake. Other popular rides include the Dodg-em bumper cars, Double Shot drop tower, Den of the Lost Thieves dark ride, and Dr. Frankenstein's Haunted Castle walkthrough attraction.
Indiana Beach Amusement Resort also has accommodations for overnight guests, including a large campground for tent camping and RVs.
