Idlewild & Soak Zone
Idlewild & Soak Zone are located in the Allegheny Mountains of Ligonier, Pennsylvania about 50 miles from Pittsburgh. Founded in 1878, the park is the oldest in Pennsylvania and the third oldest in the United States.
Idlewild's seven themed areas and rides go from "idle to wild." It has been named the "second best kid's park in the world" by Amusement Today and the "third best park for families" by the National Amusement Park Historical Association.
Olde Idlewild has traditional rides such as a 1920s antique carousel, a Ferris wheel, spinning spider and scrambler style rides and two roller coasters, one of which was named a "classic coaster" by the American Coaster Enthusiasts. The 19th century old west mining town of Hootin' Holler has a train ride that crosses the park's Loyalhanna Creek, a spinning "tornado" type ride and toboggan log flume ride.
Originally opened in 1956, the Story Book Forest section of the park is a walk through classic children's tales and nursery rhymes. Step through the pages of a large book into a land of characters, tales and attractions from the stories everybody knows and loves.
Jumpin' Jungle is the ultimate child and adult play area with ladders, ropes, slides and a ball pit and Raccoon Lagoon is nine acres of classic kiddie land rides of bumper cars, miniature cars, a trolley ride and children's music and puppet shows.
Soak Zone, included with park admission, is Idlewild's water park and features 14 water slides, water activity and children's play areas. A giant tipping bucket and a brand new 280,600-gallon wave pool make Soak Zone the place to be on hot days.
Old-fashioned appeal and memories of yesteryear teamed with racing waterslides and wet and wild fun make Idlewild & Soak Zone a fun time for all ages.
