Funtown Amusement Pier

Seaside Park, New Jersey

Unfortunately, Funtown Pier suffered two losses and was destroyed as a result. Many of the rides were destroyed and much of the pier damaged when Superstorm Sandy hit on October 29, 2012. But when things couldn't get worse, they did. A devastating fire on September 12, 2013 destroyed what was left, along with eight blocks of the rebuilt boardwalk. The future of Funtown Pier is uncertain. While the owner would like to rebuild, residents have been opposing the plans.

Seaside Heights is one of a number of small towns along the Jersey Shore that is within a few hours drive of Philadelphia or New York City. A popular summer tourist destination, this area is known for it's beautiful, wide sandy beaches, lively boardwalk and energetic nightlife.

The two-mile Boardwalk is filled with the usual fare you'd expect from the Jersey Shore – souvenir shops, arcades, concession stands, restaurants and of course, amusement parks.

The now lost Funtown Amusement Pier was located on the southern end of the Boardwalk in Seaside Park extending more than 300 feet out over the Atlantic Ocean. This popular attraction could be seen for miles thanks to the iconic, 225-foot tall Tower of Fear ride.

The amusement pier offered you more than 30 rides and attractions for all ages to keep you entertained while visiting the Jersey Shore. You could race your friends here on the go-kart track or take a date for a loop on the upside down roller coaster.

If you're were bringing young children, the pier had a dozen rides just for them, including small bumper cars, carousel, mini helicopters and two kiddie roller coasters just to name a few.

Other popular attractions included the Giant Wheel with its spectacular views of the surrounding area, several high-energy spinning rides that were popular with teenagers and a couple of up-charge attractions – the Skycoaster and Sling Shot – that provided amazing thrills.

Admission to Funtown Amusement Pier was free, rides were priced on a pay-as-you-go basis or you could purchase an all-day wristband for unlimited rides.
