Busch Gardens' Animals Celebrate Halloween With Carved Pumpkins

Tampa, FL – While guests enjoy Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream after-hours Halloween event, the furry friends at the park also got to partake in a little Halloween fun. Last week the theme park's animals in Busch Gardens' Edge of Africa enjoyed carved pumpkins with different treats that appeal to each animal placed inside.

Lions and hyenas were tempted by meat. Ring-tailed lemurs sought grapes, while merkats were after mealworms. Hippos love fruit, but Kita enjoyed playing with the buoyant pumpkin for a few minutes before smashing it and eating it. Busch Gardens zookeepers used the seasonal fruit as enrichment for the animals and to vary their diets. Enrichment items such as food and toys are used daily by the zoo team to keep the animals engaged and stimulated, both mentally and physically.
