First 100 Ride Free When Coney Island Cyclone Opens March 28

Coney Island, NY — The historic Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster is all set for its opening on Sunday, March 28 at noon. The first one hundred people will be invited to ride the legendary roller coaster for free.

Opening day festivities begin at 11:30 am with the Hungry March Band, New York City's magical street brass marching band. At noon Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will break a bottle of egg cream on the Cyclone's first car to signal the start of the season.

The Cyclone dates back to 1927 when it was designed Vernon Keenan and built by Harry C. Baker. The roller coaster is a long standing Coney Island attraction and has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark since 1991.
