Darien Lake, NY -- Darien Lake Theme Park is pairing up with famed Orange County Choppers to unveil their new motorcycled themed roller coaster. The partnership with OCC includes the naming of the new launched roller coaster - Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster.
Onboard the new roller coaster, passengers are seated in open-air motorbike seats and then launched forward from zero to 40 miles per hour in just three seconds. The ride on Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster then continues along 1,100 feet of track that reaches a maximum height of 40 feet.
According to Darien Lake, the roller coaster build by Zamperla Rides of Italy will be the first of its kind in the United States.
"We are excited to partner with Orange County Choppers as we present this first of its kind roller coaster experience to Western New York," said Christopher Thorpe, Darien Lake's General Manager. "It is truly an awesome partnership for both organizations and a great opportunity to have fun with fans while delivering a completely unique ride experience."
Orange County Choppers was founded by metalworker Paul Teutul, Sr. in the basement of his Montgomery, New York home in 1999. Three years later the firm that was already recognized by chopper enthusiasts was picked up by the Discovery Channel to become the basis of what is now a hit television series - American Chopper.
As part of the partnership with the park, the famed OCC chopper firm will also build a custom bike inspired by the new roller coaster and the Darien Lake theme park experience. The design and build of this custom bike will be featured on upcoming televised episode of American Chopper, which airs Thursdays at 9:00 pm ET on TLC.
The Teutuls are also scheduled to make several appearances at Darien Lake this season, including attending the grand opening of the MotoCoaster roller coaster on May 16.
The crew from OCC will visit Darien Lake to experience the entire theme park first hand and gain an inspiration for a custom OCC MotoCoaster motorcycle they will build for the park.
During the grand opening event the Teutuls plan to conduct research and find inspiration for the custom chopper that they will present to the park in June. The finished custom bike will remain on display at the park.
During the unveiling of the custom Darien Lake chopper, the park will also debut new themeing for the Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster.
Guests visiting Darien Lake this season will also have a chance to win an exclusive Orange County Choppers production bike, painted with a unique Darien Lake design.
