Pirate Ship, Family Slide New Attractions At Quassy Amusement Park

Quassy Amusement Park Celebrates 100 YearsMiddlebury, CT -- Two new rides have arrived at Quassy Amusement Park as the park prepares to celebrate "100 Years of Fun" (1908-2008) this summer.

The "Galleon" Pirate Ship has come in and dropped anchor at the amusement park as it gets set up to swing high above the park midway. With up to 33 passengers onboard, the "Galleon" suspended from a giant pendulum takes riders on a wild voyage, as the vessel swings back and forth, soaring high above.

Galleon Pirate Ship Swinging Ride"This is a fantastic family ride - one that we have considered adding for quite some time," said George Frantzis II, a park co-owner. "With this being our milestone centennial season, there was no better opportunity than now for us to make this acquisition - one that will certainly be welcomed by our loyal customers."

The ride will be situated at the bottom of the main walkway leading into the park with the redemption arcade serving as the backdrop. Built by Zamperla rides of Altavilla, Italy, Galleon will be the new centerpiece to the more than 20 rides at the venue.

Galleon Pirate Ship Swinging Ride On BoardIn addition to Galleon, Quassy announced that they will be adding a second ride this summer. A new three-lane, 28-foot tall family fun slide will be situated near the Quassy Ice Cream Parlor.

The slide features 100-foot fiberglass chutes that incorporated gentle humps to provide a fast and thrilling experience.

The slide was built by Childress rides of Easley, South Carolina, and will accommodate children and adults.

In preparation for the 100th season, Quassy has been busy with other projects during the off-season, including improvements to existing structures and refurbishing of rides.

Quassy Amusement Park opens for the 2008 season on Saturday, April 26.
