Seattle, WA -- Seattle's Fun Forest amusement park at the base of the landmark Sky Needle will close at the end of 2009. City officials cited a steady decline in revenue generated by the park and late payments as reason for the closure.
A report in May 2006 by a Seattle Center stated that Fun Forest amusement park lacks relevancy and currency, is worn and outdated and has fallen behind on its lease payments to the city.
On Tuesday, Seattle City Council members voted unanimously to a new agreement that terminates the amusement park lease five years earlier.
Recently the city has been negotiating with Fun Forest owners. The new agreement approved Tuesday reduces the park's lease in exchange for earlier termination date. The new lease is set to expire at the end of 2009, instead of the end of 2014.
