X2 and Thomas & Friends Coming to Six Flags Magic Mountain

Valencia, CA -- Six Flags Magic Mountain announced its improvements for the 2008 operating season. The Southern California theme park plans to add a new twist to the park's most popular roller coaster, X. Also for the park's little guests, the world-famous Thomas The Tank Engine pulls into a newly-created children's play area, Thomas Town.

"X2 and Thomas Town are part of a very exciting season we have planned for 2008, as we continue our mission of making Six Flags synonymous with an entertainment experience that delivers thrills for the entire family," said Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "For our more adventurous guests, we will take our one-of-a-kind coaster, X, and deliver a whole new extreme experience with X2, while young children and their parents can spend quality time together in our new Thomas Town."

X roller coaster, the world's first 4th dimensional ride is once again pushing all limits with the addition of an innovative and totally immersive sight and sound experience. Six Flags says the improvements will elevate the roller coaster into the 5th dimension.

This $10 million upgrade to the X roller coaster will include three completely new, redesigned trains from S&S-Arrow. Six Flags is also going to introduce all-new, state-of-the-art visual, audio and sensory effects in a new tunnel.

"Since it opened in 2002, X, with its 360-degree rotating seats and head-first, face down drops, has been one of the most popular thrill rides on the planet," stated Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "With the redesign, X2 will take even the most daring riders on a journey to a unique and uncharted dimension of extreme only Six Flags Magic Mountain can deliver."

X varies from a traditional roller coaster where the trains only parallel the track. On X riders are sent around the 3,600-foot long track in massive wing-shaped trains with seats that extend off the sides of the track. Each seat on X is designed to independently rotate guests head over heels, forward and backward creating a one-of-a-kind "don't know what to expect next" sensation.

X2 will launch the X roller coaster into a new dimension with the addition of a new tunnel and light experience that changes with every ride.

"Six Flags Magic Mountain has been thrilling guests and making family memories for over 36 years and our new additions will help us continue to do so for years to come!"

In order to upgrade X, the ride will close in late 2007 and re-launch as X2 in spring 2008.

For younger guests Six Flags is getting ready to construct a new children's area called Thomas Town. This newly created area will feature Thomas & Friends and centers around a train ride on a Thomas the Tank Engine replica.

The new Thomas train ride will transport guests on journey through Thomas' home on the Island of Sodor. Visitors to Thomas Town will be greeted by Sir Topham Hatt, the Controller of the Railway, who will also be available to pose for photos with his fans.

Six Flags says, the new area will also feature a Thomas & Friends store.

"We are very excited to welcome Thomas Town to Six Flags Magic Mountain," stated Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "This beloved character has engaged and inspired preschoolers' imaginations for more than six decades and will certainly offer a rich, exciting world for children and their parents to enjoy, as families look for more ways to spend quality time together."
