Kings Dominion, VA -- Kings Dominion theme park will debut the park's 14th roller coaster next season. Dominator opening in late spring 2008 is a 4,210-foot long looping, floorless roller coaster that is the longest in the world for its kind and features the highest roller coaster loop.
In yet another variation of a traditional roller coaster, riders will board a specially designed "floorless" train with nothing but air between the riders feet and the steel rails below. Dominator begins with a short, twisted U-turn and before it begins to ascend the 161-foot tall lift hill.
As each 32-passenger train crests the top of the lift riders descend a 157-foot drop, speed through a record-breaking vertical loop. Four additional inversions follow during the two minute, six second roller coaster ride.
"Kings Dominion is known for having one of the country's widest varieties of roller coasters," said Pat Jones, Kings Dominion's vice president and general manager. "Dominator is the perfect definition of the word "thrill" and reflects our commitment to combining one-of-a-kind attractions with fantastic family entertainment."
Dominator will be Kings Dominion's 14th roller coaster, a collection that includes Volcano The Blast Coaster, Flight of Fear, Anaconda, The Grizzly and Rebel Yell.
"We're looking for some real thrill seekers who are up for the challenge and ready to take total control of their ride experience," added Jones.
Dominator is being relocated from the recently closed Geauga Lake amusement park in Aurora, Ohio. The roller coaster will be built on the east side of International Street, just behind Kings Dominion's Berserker ride. The ride was designed and built by Swiss based roller coaster designers Bolliger & Mabillard.
Kings Dominion reopens for the 2008 season on Saturday, March 22. The park opens for daily operation on May 24, the same day that the Water Works water park opens for the summer.
