New Roller Coaster Rising at West Edmonton Mall Amusement Park

Edmonton, Alberta -- Galaxyland Amusement Park inside the West Edmonton Mall announced the name for their new spinning roller coaster that is being constructed at the park.

After receiving more than 1,000 entries, the park selected the submitted name Galaxy Orbiter for the new roller coaster. Mark Hogg of Calgary submitted the winning entry.

Hogg and a friend will be among the first to ride the roller coaster when it opens this summer.

The park is currently in the process of assembling Galaxy Orbiter in the indoor amusement park with a 30-ton crane. The roller coaster recently arrived from its German manufacturer Gerstlauer in 16 containers.

According to Galaxyland, the holes have been dug, the roof has been raised and the columns and track are currently being installed.

Galaxy Orbiter will be the first roller coaster of its kind in Canada.
