Kings Island, OH -- Visitors at Kings Island theme park will be able to to fly this Saturday as the park opens its 14th roller coaster, Firehawk. The much-anticipated roller coaster debuts Memorial Day weekend as the Cincinnati theme park celebrates its 35th anniversary.

Firehawk the first "flying coaster" at Kings Island will take riders on a flight from 115 feet in the air and through five inversions at speeds of more than 50 mph.

The big difference with this roller coaster is the manner in which passengers ride. While onboard Firehawk riders face the ground, giving them inconceivable experience of human flight.

After boarding the specially designed train, riders are lowered onto their backs for the ascent up the 115-foot tall lift hill. After the ascent, the trains flip over, placing riders into a perfect flying position for the approximate half-mile adventure.

According to Kings Island, the entire ride lasts about two and half minutes.

As part of the opening weekend celebration, Kings Island is giving away special commemorative Firehawk T-shirts to the first 2,500 riders each day from Saturday May 26 through Tuesday May 29.
