Shakopee, MN -- Valleyfair reopens May 12 with a brand-new wooden roller coaster topping the list of improvements. The highly anticipated Renegade roller coaster is $7 million addition to the Minnesota amusement park.
Designed by Great Coasters International, Inc. of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, Renegade peaks at just over ten stories tall. The 3,113-foot long ride starts with a 91-foot drop that propels the train to a top speed of 52 mph.
According to Valleyfair, twists, turns, speed and the Old West are the top features of Renegade. The roller coaster also boasts a never-before-experienced twisting first drop, a low-to-the-ground high speed S-turn and a high-speed station fly-by.
With the opening of Renegade tomorrow, Valleyfair will now offer eight different roller coasters in their attraction lineup.
In addition to the new roller coaster, Valleyfair plans to unveil several more improvements to the amusement park.
At the Corkscrew roller coaster a new take home DVD souvenir will be available for purchase.
While guests ride Valleyfair's looping steel roller coaster, a new on-board video system will take several pictures of each rider and upload those pictures to a DVD. For those who purchase a DVD the system also allows you to continue to add to your disc every time you re-ride the Corkscrew.
The park will also be implementing a smoke-free environment this season. Starting tomorrow smoking will be restricted smoking to five designated areas within the park.
According to Valleyfair this new policy is for the comfort and health of park guests. It is similar to the policies now found at most amusement parks throughout the United States.
Since food is as much a part of the amusement park experience as rides, guests will also find several new food choices this year. The new Sidewinder Burrito will serve up Mexican fare with Burritos and Tacos. New menu items such as Hawaiian pizza, deep fried pickles, chicken quesadilla bites, and apple fries have been added to different concessions throughout the park.
Another favorite, Sno Cones are also making their return this season and will be available at the park's cotton candy locations.
