Darien Center, NY -- Darien Lake will reopen on May 5 and the park's new owners are preparing to unveil several changes to the theme park this season.
The most significant difference will be the name. Under new ownership the theme park will loose the Six Flags brand name. The park will now be called Darien Lake Theme Park Resort.
Darien Lake also noted that the Superman roller coaster will be renamed simply Ride of Steel. As part of the name change the park has unveiled a brand-new logo.
"We are entering into an exciting new era in the resort's successful 26 year history and look forward to having our guests come back to enjoy the park and resort and create new memories with their families," said Bradley Paul, general manager of the theme park resort.
Darien Lake is positioning itself as a family theme park with a focus on the local market. For 2007 the general admission price will remain the same at $34.99, but the park is lowering the after 5 p.m. admission to $19.99. Also, parking will be $7 this season instead of $10.
The new attraction this season will be a lineup of new entertainment shows. Le Grand Cirque, Cliff Hopkins comedy magician, new midway stage performances and LaserBlast, a nightly laser show will be presented.
Debuting in June, Le Grand Circus is a spellbinding and magical show that will quite simply take guests' breath away and deliver a performance beyond their wildest imagination.
The park says it's a perfect show for the entire family.
Beautiful costumes, dynamic lighting, and masterfully arranged music, according to Darien Lake. It's some of the greatest international talent ever assembled on one stage.
LaserBlast is being enhanced this season, according to Darien Lake.
The popular nighttime show is an enhanced state-of-the-art visual display combining the latest in aerial fireworks, pyrotechnics, laser animation, lights, sound, and musical choreography.
Darien Lake Theme Park Resort opens for the 2007 season on May 5.
