Speed The Ride Evacuated After Unexpected Stop

Las Vegas -- Speed The Ride at the Sahara Hotel & Casino unexpectedly shut down stranding sixteen passengers on the roller coaster.

According to Sahara Hotel officials, the roller coaster blew a circuit at approximately 3:30 pm today and came to a stop next to the vertical loop. The train was about 15 feet above the ground.

There were no injuries and all of the passengers were safely evacuated within an hour. The Clark County Fire Department used a truck ladder to remove the riders.

"The ride did exactly what it was supposed to do," said a Sahara Hotel official.

The unexpected shut down was a mere inconvenience. At no time were any of the riders in any danger.

Speed The Ride is one of the attractions at the NASCAR Cafe part of the Sahara Hotel & Casino. The 224-foot tall, 1,365-foot long roller coaster opened in 2000.
