Anaheim, CA --Both Space Mountain and California Screamin' roller coasters at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure will be transformed into a rock 'n' roll adventure beginning in January.
Disney announced that each roller coaster is being outfitted with a new soundtrack that will accentuate every rise, drop, twist and turn of the track. The new audio tracks are going to take the ride experience of these classic attractions to a new level.
Re-launched as Rockin' Space Mountain and Rockin' California Screamin', each roller coaster will feature a different hit song from a well-known rock band. Disney won't comment on who the bands are.
Space Mountain which underwent a major rehab in 2004 and 2005 has an upgraded audio system on board each two car, twelve passenger train. Special lighting effects were also added to Space Mountain that will be turned on for Rockin' Space Mountain.
Disney tested this new version of Space Mountain during last year's Grad Nite event and claims it was a huge hit.
While California Screamin' doesn't have the same element of surprise as Space Mountain since it operates outdoors, but the attraction is twice the speed and features a thrilling vertical loop. Disney claims California Screamin' with its adrenaline-pumping plunges and powerful launch is perfectly suited for a hard-driving rock-n-roll soundtrack.
The transformation of both roller coasters will begin January 3 and the plan is to operate them this way through late spring.
