Arnolds Park, IA -- For the third year in a row Arnolds Park turned a profit despite a decline in attendance. Overall revenues for the amusement park were reported to be up by the board of directors of Historic Arnolds Park, Inc.
The net operating income for the 2006 season was $189,000, according to Fred Dowden, budge and finance committee chair, which was $9,000 more than last year.
Dowden said, "Scott Pyle, Arnolds Park's general manager reduced expenses by $100,000."
The park's previous long-term debt of $1.7 million has been reduced to $146,000. Through the "Sustain the Park" fundraising campaign and careful management the park is expected to completely wipe out its debt by years end.
For 2007, the park hopes to add a new ride or two for children. The board authorized Pyle to spend up to $20,000 at an auction of historic amusement park rides in October.
Now that the park's debt is under control the board hopes to be able to add a couple of new rides to entertain park guests.
