Altoona, IA -- An 11-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital after riding the Tornado roller coaster Monday at Adventureland amusement park in Altoona.
According to reports the girl was hit in the head by a loose board placed on the side of the ride. A park representative said the board was not part of the roller coaster.
Adventureland inspected the ride after the accident and could not find anything wrong. The state Division of Labor also sent inspectors to check the ride and determined it to be safe.
Two others riders were reported to have also been struck, but left the scene without treatment.
Adventureland resumed operation of The Tornado roller coaster, which has been an attraction at the park since 1979.
