Libertyland Carousel Expected To Sell For $1 Million

Memphis, TN -- The owners of Libertyland amusement park are selling the park's historic carousel. Built in 1909 by the Dentzel Carousel Company, the hand carved ride with only horses is expected to sell for close to a million dollars.

Originally located in Chicago, the ride has been operating in Memphis since the mid 1920's. The carousel is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The sale of the carousel is part of the dismantling of Libertyland. After several years of financial problems, the owners decided to close the amusement park at the end of the 2005 season.
