Thrill Ride Strands Riders After Power Outage

Las Vegas, NV -- Six tourists got more than they paid for when they were left hanging 866-feet above the Las Vegas Strip aboard a thrill ride atop the Stratosphere Tower. The unlucky tourists all from Japan were stranded on the X-Scream ride after a momentary power outage.

No one was injured in the incident, but all were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The passengers secured in their seats by the ride's restraints were suspended in a down-slant position, 27-feet over the edge of the tower for 90 minutes. At no time was anyone in any danger and the riders were returned to the tower's observation deck at 7:15 pm.

Stratosphere officials said the power outage occurred when a car crashed into a street-level electrical transformer at approximately 5:45 pm. Two other thrill rides atop the tower were also operating at the time, but stopped without incident.

X-Scream will be temporarily closed for a safety inspection and to determine why it took so long for the ride to reset after power was restored.
