Hot Springs, AR — A maintenance worker is in critical, but stable condition after his foot got caught in the roller coaster yesterday at Magic Springs & Crystal Falls amusement park.
According to news reports, the man got his foot caught in the roller coaster's steel track and rescuers had to cut him free. It took firefighters nearly two hours to free him using a metal cutting saw.
The worker was then airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The accident began when the Gauntlet roller coaster came to an unexpected stop. The worker then climbed atop the roller coaster's brake area to fix it. When the train was released from the brakes, the worker's leg got caught and he laid trapped more than 30-feet above the ground.
The riders on the roller coaster were evacuated using a ground hoist.
Magic Springs will conduct an investigation before the roller coaster reopens.
