Santa Cruz, CA -- Thrill seekers will begin blasting skyward this Saturday, March 19 when the new 125-foot "Double Shot" thrill ride opens at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Offering a spectacular views of Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay, the Double Shot is the first major thrill ride to be added to the Boardwalk since the Hurricane roller coaster opened in 1992. Arriving just in time for Spring Break, students and families will be among the first to board and be launched 12 stories up and down the Double Shot.

"This will be a very popular ride, and a new type of rider experience for the Boardwalk," said Marq Lipton, vice president of the Santa Cruz Seaside Co., owners and operators of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. "It's the perfect seaside ride, and people will be thrilled by the rush as well as the view."

Riders on the Double Shot will experience both positive and negative G-forces during the ride. As the passenger cart is shot up the tower riders will experience up to 3-G's. Upon reaching the top of the 12-story tower the cart will suddenly be shot down the tower where riders will feel weightlessness during the descent caused by negative Gs.

Double Shot is designed by S&S Power of Utah, a leader in vertical thrill rides.

The admission free Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk celebrates its 98th season this year. The West Coast's only seaside amusement park features more than 35 rides including the world famous 1924 Giant Dipper roller coaster.
