Schwabinchen Ride To Be Removed From Cedar Point

Sandusky, OH -- Thrill-seekers looking for one last loop or twist on the largest collection of rides and roller coasters in the universe will have to make it to Cedar Point this weekend, October 25-27. The historic amusement park/resort will close for the 2002 season on Sunday, October 27.

Sunday will also mark the last day of operation for the Schwabinchen spinning ride. Built in 1970, the Heinrich Mack manufactured ride will be disassembled this winter as part of the park's improvement program for 2003.

Originally located on the "Million Dollar Midway," where the WildCat roller coaster currently stands, the Schwabinchen was relocated to its present location in 1985, across from the Cedar Point Aquatic Stadium, where it replaced the popular Rotor. Schwabinchen has thrilled more than 15 million guests in its 32-year history.

The park voted the "Best Amusement Park in the World" for five consecutive years by the readers of Amusement Today, an international publication that covers amusement and water park news and trends, will close its gates for the 2002 season this Sunday night.

Spooky live entertainment and scary thrills still await guests during the park's final HalloWeekend. Three haunted houses, the Fright Zone, a magical fun house for kids, Camp Spooky, master magician Aaron Radatz and more await guests who visit the park. Cedar Point will be open on Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to midnight; Saturday from noon to midnight; and Sunday from noon to 8:00 p.m.
