Jackson, NJ — Six Flags Great Adventure will build a new record breaking roller coaster named Kingda Ka for the 2005 season. The new "rocket coaster" will accelerate to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a height of 456 feet, making it the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world.
Kingda Ka will begin with an impressive launch from zero to 128 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The coaster's train will then rises up a tower at a vertical angle, twisting 90 degrees, reaching a height of 456 feet or nearly 45 stories.
Crossing the apex riders will begin a vertical descent into a 270 spiral as the train falls again reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. The entire ride will be just under one minute.
Dubbed a "rocket coaster" Kingda Ka uses hydraulic motors to launch the trains to 128 mph. Kingda Ka is a design of Intamin of Switzerland, the same manufacturer that designed and built the current world-record holder, Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.
Construction on Kingda Ka has already begun and Six Flags intends to have the new roller coaster ready to open next spring.
