Orlando, FL -- In preparation for Hurricane Floyd, Orlando theme park operators have decided to close down theme parks for a day and half as a precaution.
This is the first time in the history of the Walt Disney World resort that theme parks are to be closed for a storm. Generally the major storms steer clear of the Orlando area where the theme parks are situated.
The Disney World theme parks including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney/MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom closed early on Tuesday, September 14 and were to remain closed through Wednesday, September 15.
Universal, which operates Universal Studios and the new Islands of Adventure theme parks, also closed their doors early on Tuesday and planned to keep the parks closed on Wednesday as well.
All of the area theme parks are expected to return to normal operation on Thursday.
