Swing Ride Collapses Injuring Fourteen

Toronto, Canada -- A spinning swing ride collapsed Wednesday evening injuring fourteen passengers at the Canadian National Exhibition.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m., while an estimated 45 people were riding.

The fourteen injured ranged in age from 5 to 15 and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Organizers of the CNE said that the victims suffered from back and neck injuries.

The "Wave Swinger" attraction features swings that are suspended from a circular dome that rises using a hydraulic system, so riders are suspended approximately 15-feet above the ground. During the operation the swings spin around in a circular fashion.

CNE officials stated that they plan to conduct an investigation and would not speculate on the possible cause of the accident.
