Millennium Force Closed For Opening of Millennium Mania

Sandusky, OH -- An untimely mechanical problem on Cedar Point's Millennium Force has forced the park to close the ride while it performs necessary maintenance. The coaster went down during a test run Sunday morning stranding a number of park employees on the lift hill for an hour until they were evacuated using a maintenance cart.

In a press release yesterday the park regretfully announced that Millennium Force will not be open for the MillenniumMania event on Thursday, September 6 and its status for Friday, September 7 is unknown. Cedar Point is hoping to make it up to guests attending MillenniumMania by offering free rides on VertiGo, the park's new thrilling Challenge Park attraction. (Rides normally cost $10 each.) In addition one the park's wooden roller coasters, Blue Streak will be open until Millennium Force is working again.

Best of all, everyone who pays to attend Millennium Mania while Millennium Force is unavailable will receive a Millennium Force Boarding Pass, which allows you to enter through the exit and ride without waiting in line one time. This exclusive pass is valid for the rest of the 2001 season as well as through the 2002 season. Cedar Point admission is required to use the pass.
