Cedar Fair Agrees To Purchase California Water Park

Sandusky, OH -- Cedar Fair L.P. announced last Thursday that they have agreed in principle to purchase White Water Canyon, a San Diego area water park located in Chula Vista, California.

White Water Canyon is a 33-acre water park themed around an 1890's Gold Rush town. The park has 20 separate water rides and attractions, including 16 slides; a wave pool, lazy river and children's play area. The park also has 32 additional acres of undeveloped land for future expansions.

"White Water Canyon is a first-class facility, and it will be an ideal addition to our current group of parks," said Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer of Cedar Fair. "We have had great success with our water parks at both Cedar Point and Worlds of Fun, and we believe that further expansion in this area represents a good opportunity for growth. The addition of White Water Canyon, along with our previously announced plans to build Soak City U.S.A. at Knott's Berry Farm for the 2000 season, will give us four individually operated water parks to compliment our five amusement parks next season."

Cedar Fair is acquiring the park from Fremont Investment and Loan, which foreclosed on the park after it went bankrupt.
