Cedar Fair Shuts Doors To Infamous Knott's Attraction

Buena Park, CA -- November 7, 2000 -- Knott's Berry Farm has announced that it has closed its Haunted Shack attraction. The nearly fifty year old building was aging, making it difficult to maintain and rehabilitate the facility at the high safety criteria of Knott's Berry Farm. Additionally, the attraction was not able to accommodate guests with special needs as desired by the theme park in its higher standard for ADA accessibility.

The house of strange phenomena was opened in June of 1954. Daily tours revealed the gravity defying mysteries as told by Slanty Sam in "The Legend of the Haunted Shack."

Knott's Berry Farm and its parent company, Cedar Fair L.P., continue to remain committed to the history and preservation of the nation's original themed amusement park. Symbolic of Cedar Fair's commitment to the 1998 restoration of Independence Hall, certain elements of the Haunted Shack will be permanently displayed in Ghost Town. The new displays will be accessible for all guests to enjoy.

Plans for a replacement attraction are currently in development and being prepared for presentation to Buena Park City officials for approval.
