Darien Center, NY -- Six Flags Darien Lake will hold its first family-style Mardi Gras Extravaganza this Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. The event, which will officially kick off the park's 2001 season, will offer various entertainment for the entire family including parades, live zydeco music, Dixie Land jazz, marching bands, cajun/creole food, jesters, children's activities, complimentary beads for guests, and more!
There will be three stages of live music including "Tropical Explosion," the "Trinidad and Tobago Steel Drum Band," and "Leeron Zydeco and The Hot Tamales," among others. There will be strolling performances by the "Dixie Crats," "Jambalaya," and the "Bison City Stompers."
There's even more excitement with the premier of the NEW "Laserblast" laserlight, fireworks show, May 25, at 10:10 p.m. and the Six Flags 40th Anniversary Celebration, May 26. A special Six Flags birthday presentation will take place at 10:40 a.m., at the park's outdoor midway stage and will include a giant birthday cake (slices for guests!), and giveaways! All Memorial Day Weekend events are free with theme park/accommodations admission.
