Friends of Conneault Lake Announce Blue Streak Challenge

Conneaut, PA -- The friends of Conneaut Lake Park announced that plans to hold a roller coaster marathon titled, The Blue Streak Challenge, to help raise funds for the upkeep of this classic wooden coaster. The goal of the event is to ensure the future Blue Streak, so future generations can continue to enjoy it.

Twenty-four individuals and twelve alternates will be selected to participate based on committed pledges. Chosen participants will ride the Blue Streak for ten to twelve continuous hours, with only a brief hourly break and two 30-minute meal breaks during the event.

"This will certainly be a challenge to their endurance, while they raising money for a historic coaster," according to Kelly Petrachkoff and Roland Follot, the event planners. Petrachkoff and Follot came up with the idea in January and after receiving the park's permission they started to plan the event.

Famous for its steep hills and nostalgic trains, the Blue Streak provides a truly unique ride experience. This classic wooden roller coaster was designed and built in 1937 by Ed Vettel and is one of only two coasters, designed by Vettel that remain in operation today.

The Blue Streak is one of only 38 roller coasters to hold the honor of being called an "ACE Coaster Classic." This special recognition is bestowed upon coasters that meet the strict criteria of the American Coaster Enthusiasts.

Conneaut Lake Park is a traditional, family oriented amusement park located in northwestern Pennsylvania. It will celebrate its 108th birthday this season with the slogan, "Take A Ride Back In Time."
