Sandusky, Ohio -- Cedar Fair, L.P., a publicly traded partnership which owns and operates five amusement parks, has announced plans to build a new limited service motel at Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, for the 2000 season.
Called Breakers Express, the new 190,000 square-foot, three-story structure will feature 350 rooms and will be located near the Causeway entrance to Cedar Point. Breakers Express will operate seasonally and will include a courtyard, an arcade and a swimming pool.
"With a continually increasing number of guests wanting to stay overnight at Cedar Point, we remain focused on adding to our growing resort complex," said Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer. "Breakers Express will be a lower-priced alternative for vacationers looking for convenience and limited service, while still being part of the Cedar Point experience."
Breakers Express will be Cedar Point's fourth hotel and will increase the total number of guest rooms offered at Cedar Point properties to 1,424.
The Partnership also recently announced that Knott's Berry Farm, located near Los Angeles, will introduce Soak City U.S.A., a multi-million-dollar water park themed around 1950's Southern California beach towns, for the 2000 season.
Kinzel concluded by explaining that additional capital expenditure plans for the 2000 season at Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm, as well as the Partnership's other three parks, are in the process of being finalized and will be announced at a later date.
