Lake Buena Vista, FL -- The Walt Disney World Resort is planning to erect a new resort that will take guests on a trip through American pop culture of the 20th century. The first phase of the new resort is slated to open in 2002 and will feature larger-than-life icons of the way we lived, played and communicated in the each of the ten decades.
The new resort will feature a total of 5,760 rooms and will be built in two phases. The first phase of 2,880 rooms is scheduled to be ready to open in 2002. Once this latest project is completed the Walt Disney Resort will feature over 33,000 rooms within the resort. Disney will own and operate 19 of the resorts with more than 27,000 rooms.
The complex will feature twenty buildings, paired together to represent a decade of the 20th century. Icons of the era will form the entrance to each set of buildings. In addition Silhouettes illustrating dances of the decade will adorn the front of each building. The roofs will be lined with larger than life catch phrases of the time.
The new resort will be located just south of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. This new resort will join Disney's All-Star Resorts, offering guest accommodations in the value category. Room at Disney's All-Star Resorts are currently priced from $74-$104 per night.
The next Disney resort to open is the new Animal Kingdom Lodge, which will is scheduled to open in 2001.
