Cedar Point Voted Best For Steel Roller Coasters

Sandusky, OH -- Cedar Point amusement park/resort recently received honors in two different amusement park polls. The National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) voted Cedar Point's Magnum XL-200 the "favorite steel roller coaster in the world" in its just-released 1999 survey, while the park's Raptor took the No. 2 slot on the steel coaster list. Plus, readers of Family Fun magazine rated Cedar Point the "top amusement park in the Midwest for families" in its April issue.

Members of NAPHA have voted the Magnum XL-200 the No. 1 steel roller coaster in the world for nine straight years. NAPHA was founded in 1978 and is an international enthusiast's organization dedicated to preserving and documenting the heritage of the amusement park industry. The NAPHA survey, which began in 1986, tallies members' favorite coasters and attractions from parks around the world.

"This is the first time that a roller coaster has remained at the No. 1 spot for nine consecutive years," says Marlowe McClasky Futrell, NAPHA's public relations coordinator, crediting the ultra-popular Magnum XL-200. "And because Raptor was voted the second favorite steel coaster, the No. 1 and No. 2 steel roller coasters are at the same park, which is really quite an achievement."

Family Fun magazine readers gave high marks to Cedar Point by rating the mega-park the No. 1 amusement park in the Midwest for families. Readers applauded Cedar Point's incredible 14 roller coasters -- more than anywhere else in the world -- as well as the vast assortment of 68 total rides; children's attractions such as Camp Snoopy, based on the world-famous PEANUTS characters; beach; and live shows.

Not one to rest on its laurels, Cedar Point will unveil the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world for its 2000 season. Named Millennium Force, this stratospheric 310-foot-tall, 92-mph scream machine will be the first coaster to ever top 300 feet in height and will break an amazing 10 world records!

The 130-year-old venerable Cedar Point kicks off its 2000 season on Saturday, May 13.
