Arlington, TX -- Six Flags Over Texas will keep the Shockwave roller coaster closed until mid-September due to damage from the recent torrential rains and flooding. The 26-year old, double-loop roller coaster designed by Anton Schwarzkopf needs to be shored up before it can reopen. The roller coaster as been closed since June 29.
A team of engineers inspecting the ride determined that soil erosion around the steel supports needs to be repaired before the roller coaster reopens. Six Flags plans to begin those repairs after August 22 when the operating schedule reverts back to weekends only. Repairs are expected to take two to three weeks after which the coaster will reopen.
