Pigeon Forge, TN -- There's a new attraction at Dollywood, but it doesn't have the twists and turns of a roller coaster, the song and dance of award-winning entertainment, the cool splash of a water slide, or the interactive elements of a children's treehouse. In fact, it isn't even meant for humans. It's a brand new kennel - constructed just for man's best friend.
Doggywood is a 1,600 square foot $200,000 dog kennel set to open just in time for Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas on November 9. Located at the front gate area of the park, Doggywood is a one-of-a-kind, climate-controlled indoor dog care facility.
"We wanted to do this for our many guests who travel with their dogs," says Dollywood General Manager Ken Bell. "We think this will provide a comfortable and safe environment for the dogs and also provide peace of mind to their owners. We'll be very happy to see this facility begin operation."
Doggywood will fit with the entire Dollywood theme, built in the style of a rustic Smoky Mountain cabin. For owners who really want to "pamper their pooch," four cottages are available for $30 a day, or smaller kennels are available for $7. The daily rental fee provides each dog it own water supply, and a walk area is located adjacent to the building so owners can spend time with their pets without having to leave the park. All kennels at Doggywood will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
