Agawam, MA – New England roller coaster fans can rejoice as Six Flags New England officials announced a new roller coaster to be added to its already exciting line up of thrill rides. Batman The Dark Knight, a floorless, looping steel coaster when it opens this spring will become the eight roller coaster at the New England theme park.
Themed after the popular comic book superhero Batman, this state-of-the-art steel roller coaster will send brave souls on a twisting, turning journey through five inversions, a high-speed banked turn, a dive loop and interlocked corkscrews.
Unlike traditional roller coaster trains, Batman The Dark Knight will feature unique floorless trains, placing riders out in the open, thus enhancing the ride experience. Each passenger will be seated in a "flying chair" according to Six Flags, giving every passenger a virtual front-row view throughout the ride.
"Six Flags is known world-wide as the industry leader in quality thrill ride innovation and Six Flags New England is no exception" Ron Sevart, Vice President and General Manager of Six Flags New England. "Batman-The Dark Knight is so thrilling and so unique that there is nothing to compare it to in New England."
Batman The Dark Knight designed and engineered by Bolliger & Mabillard of Switzerland will stand 117-feet high and feature a top speed of 55 mph. Passengers will race along 2,600 feet of track in one of two 32-passenger trains. The ride will last 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
Construction of Batman The Dark Knight began in September with a scheduled public opening in April.
