Memorial Day Weekend Coaster Fail

I feel like Clark Griswold times 2.

My friend Ellen..which I believe WAS Clark's wife's name...and I made plans for this weekend.

We were to see the Mets-Braves game at Citi Field Friday night, then hit Playland in Rye today (Saturday)

During the day Friday, we decided late not to go to the game due to weather was very cool, raw, and raining. The tickets were comps, so we didn't have to eat the cost. I had been planning on crashing with her, and we stuck to that part of the plan. We ate and watched the game, then I took to the couch. Reason for this, was she lives closer to Rye and has easy access to the road.

Today dawned rainy as well, though not as cool as last night. We arrived at the park at 12:03. Closed. I never thought it might be closed. It wasn't raining much at all, barely a drizzle, and it was Memorial Day Weekend. If I'd had any inkling they might not open, I'd have called or at least checked their site w/ Ellen's phone.

So we left, and stopped at a convenience store in Rye for drinks. She suggested taking a ride to the Berkshires. Knowing she was willing to possibly drive to Massachusetts, I suggested hitting SFNE. As I told her, I had my pass, which includes parking. I figured it wouldn't be very crowded given the weather, and I told her I'd pay half her admission since she was doing the driving. She liked the idea, but we would still have a 2 hour ride to get there, then a long ride home. So that came off the table.

She mentioned Lake Compounce, but since we had no discounts, that didn't stay on the table long.

Then I suggested Quassy. Not a great park, but even though Ellen is not one of "us"...not even close...I knew Wooden Warrior would be right up her alley. She checked their site for the hours, and we decided to try it. It was still raining, so we stopped for a late lunch at a Friendly's not too far from the park..not only for sustenance, but in hope the rain would stop while we ate. No such luck, but it was only slightly drizzling when we arrived at Lake Quassapaug.

Their website gave no indication they were closed. We sat there a few minutes wathing the drops fall on the Warrior. She even said, Now that looks like MY kind of coaster!" I replied, "You'll be amazed at how purely FUN the damn thing is. I love that ride."

She drove me back to Bayonne, where we planned to play miniature golf before she dropped me off. Guess what?

Strike four.

So, Clark and Ellen Griswold talked about coming back to Quassy this summer, not only to ride WW, but to check out the swimming lake and water play area.

Wow - that really sucks. That sucks in "can't make that stuff up" sucks. I was supposed to have rain everyday while I was away and for once had none. Sick as a dog now though. (where exactly did that expression come from? Oh Jeopardy master?)

Sorry :-(

I couldn't tell you where "sick as a dog" came from. But you're a veterinarian. That's YOUR field. :)

Yeah, "suck" was the right phrase. The sitting in traffic at various spots didn't help, either. But the burger and ice cream at Friendly's was the highlight. The waitress let both of us order from the Senior Menu!
