opening day at pkd
Did anyne else enjoy the beautiful opening day at pkd yesterday. Had a good day there only a few minor break downs on the grizzly and the anaconda. Noticed a new paint job to the shockwave did not really care for the color what do you all think. Not a whole lot additions to the park just a couple rides in the niclodin section. Over all a great day to start off the 2000 season just cannot wait for sros open at sfa. Wend11

I'm sure the new color scheme on Shockwave was to go with the Nickelodean section. Today went well, except Shockwave wasn't open and Volcano had numerous breakdowns (2 hour wait for me). Everything else was a literal walkon, in fact, I got many numerous "didn't have to get out of my seat" rides on Grizzly. It was cool until around 4 when the rain came down hard. Needless to say, at that point, I left.

The new Chance Aviator named Nicklodeon Space Surfer looked awesome, but wasn't open, Anaconda was down for some time, Scooby coaster was closed early in the afternoon. One train on each side of rebel yell, and about 2pm the backward side broke down. Their new show in the Paramount theatre doesn't open till May 27th? that's a first!
On the lighter side, the Rugrats Toonpike and Meet Blue were a big surprise, the kids meeting blue were really a treat, and the toonpike looks like the kind of fun kids SHOULD have! The Wild Thornberry's restaurant looked AWESOME. Several of the OLD games and restaurants were renovated or re-themed, gave the place a newer look and feel. And Flight of Fear was much better for me this year, it comes to a COMPLETE STOP on teh mid-course brakes, and that made all the difference on the 2nd 1/2 of the course....SWEET
It's always nice to come to PKD and meet my online friends from URC and RRC..... See you at PKI next Saturday?
SAM
Oh! and they got new doors on the elevators on the Eiffel Tower! and lots of SWEET NEW Souvenirs too!

Hi there - how was the Volcano - was it running?

I saw some guys with RRC buttons, I probably saw you on Volcano. I was wearing a maroon Harvard shirt. The people I saw were wearing a Steel Force shirt, a Serial Thriller shirt, and a Great Ohio Coaster Club shirt and were about 10 people ahead of me in the Volcano queue.
As for next Saturday, U of R has it's annual Pig Roast, so I'll probably miss it and not be able to go again until the 17th. Perhaps we'll meet up.

So Sam, in other words it could have been compared to what some see as a normal day at SFA huh =)

lemme be the first to say i love pkd..its my hometown, but i went opening day w/ my friends and personally i thought it sucked..i waited 2+ hours onvolcano only fot it to shut down for the rest of the day..after 2 full years you'd think they f'in fix it by now no? i mean i waited 2.5 hours on the official opening day..
they did run 2 trains on foward rebel yell which pleased me, and got a few walk ons for grizzly/hurler in the morning which was also nice..but anaconda/hurler/volcano all being down in the morning made it hectic on all the other rides..i think im going to be making a lot of trips to BGW this year... -idle

Although I grant you your opinion, who said that ride mechanical breakdowns are any higher statistically at PKD than BGW? LIM/LSM has a history of complications, but I don't know of anyone who doesn't *like* V:TBC. Add to this the fact that it was opening weekend, and I think maybe a return visit in a month or so is deserved. Last year, opening day at SFGADV was chaos- the park obviously could have used another two weeks or so to fine tune operations, yet the day went off without a sweat. Mechanical breakdowns occur- it's just bad luck when you happen to be in a long line of a ride that breaks down. It happenned to me at IOA on Spiderman three times. Did I leave the line frustrated- yes. Did my overall opinion of the park hit the dust-no.

ok i know that's a bit unfair, but i earned the right to use that term after several years of delivering pizzas there, where i was the target of numerous hijinx. what, by the way, does one DO with a car-top sign, anyway?
you must have been the car behind us as we left, because we left mere seconds before the downpour. i'm sure that we got in the next to last ride on volcano, unless it reopened later. i bought a season pass for a friend as an early birthday gift, got that processed, stared at volcano, then did olfof, then anaconda, then saw v working so stood in that line for about two hours. we were next and suddenly they sent an empty through....arrrgh! then we got on and that was near four. wouldn't be surprised if i met you actually.
final point. shockwave is UGLY! what did they do, throw darts at a color chart?
HAHAHAHA um Yea
I didnt know Premier bought KD from Paramount! =)
