SFMM or KBF?
I will be travelling to the LA area this summer and I was wondering wich park would be better to visit. I will only be there a week and the person I am staying with may only be able to get off of work for and couple of days and I wanted to go to some other places in LA other than theme parks. If I only get one day to go to a theme park which one should I visit. I have already been to KBF, but construction on Ghostrider had just begun so I obviously didn't get to ride it. I have not yet been to SFMM. What are your suggestions? Thanks, swOHman a.k.a. Brian

It is a no brainer. Definetly SFMM! It flat out rocks ang they of course have Goliath which just opened. I have been to Knott's Berry Farm but also before GhostRider opened but just because it has one new ride, all of it's other rides SUCK! Six Flags is a must in my book.
Obviously, you've never been on Supreme Scream! Another great addition to KBF. Both parks are great in their own way. SFMM has a broader selection of coasters, but KBF has a certain style/charm about it. Not to mention the fact that Ghostrider blows most of SFMM's coaster out of the water. Carl

I would definitely go to SFMM. Ghostrider is better than any rides at SFMM, but SFMM overall collection is better. Goliath is a must ride, as well as Riddler. I would definitely go to SFMM. Which ever you choose though, I hope you have a good time.

Go to KBF for Montezooma, Supreme Scream, and Ghostrider. Go to SFMM for Viper, Riddler, Batman, Goliath, and Superman. Who wins this battle???? But Knotts does have WAAAAYYYYY better food, and a better atmosphere. Go to which ever one is closer.
I have already

My suggestion: Go spend a day SFMM with your friend and enjoy Goliath, Viper, RR, etc. and have a great day in a new (to you) park. Then rent a car (if necessary) on another day and go to KBF and spend 2 or 3 hours enjoying the incredible Ghostrider & Supreme Scream, then go on to the other SoCal attractions you want to visit. KBF is usually not very crowded on weekdays. As another poster said, "Have a great time!" Best regards, Al W.

I agree. If you want pure coasters, go to SFMM, but if you want a fun environment plus cool coasters, go to KBF.

Personally I'd prefer Knotts Berry Farm. I went over there back before Supreme Scream or Ghostrider were open and I found the park to have a slight edge (mainly due to the crowds that it seems to attract and more friendly employees, but thrill rides did play a big part). It really depends on how much the people in the park mean to you. When it comes to employees, Knotts has a big edge, they seem to care more and work harder while SFMM employees really have that look like they could care less. The people between the parks are complete opposites. Knotts does attract a MUCH more family crowd while SFMM attracts more gangsters and such. Thrill ride wise, I found it to be pretty close, Knotts ride for ride I found better, but SFMM does have the edge quantity wise.
That all depends on what you prefer in a park. Both parks are great, yet so much different from one another, which makes having to visit both parks a must. However if you are only able to visit just one, I'll let you decide which one.
SFMM: Loaded with a great selection of coasters, including giant coasters, such as Goliath, Viper, and Riddlers Revenge. Its a very large park with some heavy uphill and downhill walking in certain parts of the park.
KBF: A neat little park with some killer rides, such as Ghostrider, Supreme Scream and Montazoomas Revenge. Great theming with a good selection of other rides.
Both parks can and have been getting crowded during this time of the year. The best time to go to both is on a weekday, because as of next week, SFMM will be open 7 days a week. KBF is also open 7 days a week year round.

Actually out of all honesty, the type of crowds I been you seeing at KBF are identical to what I've been seeing at SFMM.
I've been to SFMM 5 times in the last 8 months, and I sit here scratching my head, trying to figure out what all this talk is about SFMM having problems with gangbangers.
Yes SFMM does get some gangbangers here and there, but so does KBF.

I think what people are mistaking as gangbangers are these young kids with the hip hop style and people atomaticly assume that they are gangbangers b/c they dress like that. But all they are is some kids trying to look cool. Belive me I have lived the gangbanger life and jumping up going to the amusement park was not on most of the gangbangers I incountered agenda for the day. What was on the agenda was robbing, steeling, doing drugs, partying in the hood, having sex with as many people as possible, and staying as far away from the COPS as possible. That's why your not going to find to many gangbangers in places where the cops are around you at all times like in an amusement park. That was the old days this is the new SFMM and KBF have gotten hip on preventing and detering gangbangers and other people with bad attiudes from wanting to try anything in there parks. On very busy days at the parks what do you see that intimidates you more then the rides when you enter the parks? Police and security galor. So to anyone that's afraid to come to SFMM or Kbf don't be because what your hearing is bogus. there is to much protection in and around the parks for anything to happen besides maybe a fist fight may start because of line cutting but that can happen at any park.So anyway let me stop my ramblings and you go to both parks I am sure you will love both of them.

But I think MM, gets them more in the summer due to MM have more rollercoasters. At first when I went to Magic Mountain I was kinda skeptical about going because I was afraid no one(the employees) would step up and doing anything. I had heard from someone that while on Superman the Escape some thugs were riding it and I guess they decide they liked it so much that they were going to stay on regardless of the other people waiting in line. So, the ride op allowed them to ride again. I hope that was not true.

Here we have another case of he say she say and that type of junk is always untrue. I know that the ride ops and resteraunt employees have security buttons to push when ever they suspect are see anything going on the needs security. Security will be there promtly, I was there last summer of '99 and a fight between an older man in his late 30' early 40's and a younger guy in his late teens early 20's, we were in the Ninja station. The younger guy tried to get back up in the line with his friends, I guess he went to the restoom or something and was coming back.the older man and the young man got into an arguement and was starting to tussel(LOL) before you knew it secruity was on them like white on rice. they escorted both of them out of the area and I guess to the secruity building. All I know is that secruity was prompt when there was a problem and I did not see any more out breaks of so called violence during the rest of my wonder day at SFMM.

P.S. people dont belive the rumore about SFMM you will only know for sure if you see it with you onw eyes half the people that spread these nasty rumors has never even been to SFMM of KBF

I totally agree w/ what Rober Said. I even get the looks of 'stupid teen' when I am anywhere. I do not dress anywhere near gangster (unless somewhat baggy pants but me into that catagory). I wear surfer slothes etc. Do you think I would do anything to my SFMM? NO SIR! (or woman =0) but people just look at kids differently becuase we have a stereotype that kids are bad. Anyways, I am not going to ramble on abou this, have done that enought already. You get what my point it. Just remember that not all kids are the ones on the news.

I know what you're saying, I have long hair shaved high up underneath, I wear shirts promoting bands like Soulfly, Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Metallica, Sevendust, Cannibal Corpse, etc. If anyone gets stereotyped, it's me. I've heard and seen people look at me in line for Batman: The Ride, and then trying to make it so I can't hear say to the person they're with, "Why does this ride always attract the freaks?" Do I wear fishnet? No. I usually wear jeans and a T-Shirt with a pair of regular shoes. I know not to generalize anyone, but when I went to SFMM, hearing conversations in line about people planning on a "A shooting tonight." and "Bustin a cap on his a**." I know one of those is just an impression, but the other person was dead serious, those were fighting words I heard. Worst thing is that what I heard there was just in the first hour. It did slow down a lot, but I heard a lot of how this guy was gonna kill that guy, I saw several incidents of line jumping, a couple of times when someone would stand up to them it would be returned with a threat. Could I have just visited on gangster day? Maybe. Could I have just noticed more because of what I saw earlier and wanted to be more aware of my surroundings? Probably. Yet there's no doubt that I saw what I saw and I saw more of this at SFMM than at Knotts. Considering I was at SFMM before Knotts I was also fearing for my life at Knotts for the first hour before I realized how much more family like the Knotts crowds were. I don't know, maybe Supreme Scream and Ghostrider have brought in the SFMM crowds quite a bit, but I saw what I saw, and it's the truth.

Heck, Montezooma's Revenge blows many of SFMMs rides outta the water! Frankly, KBF may not have the sheer number of thrill rides SFMM has, but *dang* they always run everything at 100% - even their Boomerang feels better than the others! And the flat rides are all as &%$*-bent-for-leather as they can get! The Log Flume Ride is a total classic, and the Wave Swinger redefines what one of those things should run like!
Run, don't walk, to KBF! And then if you have time, head up to SFMM for a ride on Goliath and Riddler.

There is no way that you can do one without the other, your trip won't be complete leaving out Goliath or Ghostrider. And don't buy any news about gangbangers from people who have only been to the park once or twice. I have been to MM a total of 23 times, and not once have I had a bad experience! KBF either... Have Fun!
