Coney Island
I think they should of called the new Luna Park Zamperla Land.

Sarcasm has its place in society (I should know, after all! :))
But I'm just happy there will be rides on the site. I discovered Coney late in life, but it just wouldn't be the same with no rides on the spot where Astroland stood. I like the fact they're paying tribute to Coney's past with the name.

Agreed, when Astroland was still there, there really wasn't much of a choice to ride other than the Cyclone. They had 'standard' rides that you can ride multiple times at parks like BGE, KD etc.
For the prices they charged, it really wasn't worth it. Now had they had a special wrist band where you pay $25~ for a whole day, that would've been much more worth it. [If they did have that then I must've not seen such a sign.]
I like the throwback name and am looking forward to some of those rides they'll install there.

A Lunar Park "sneak peek" video and info on this link below.
Coney Island's new Luna Park, modeled after original, will debut 19 thrilling rides on May 29

Just passing by, saw this post and had a big laugh. There is no way you can compare the flat rides at any other park to how Astroland ran theirs. The Breakdance was legendary in its' operation, the Enterprise was totally insane. There is no way you can compare the ride experience at Coney to another park.
The hype is that Luna Park will continue this ride experience, but time will tell. If they don't they will fail. NYC is an extreme city, the ride has to be that way as well.

They did have one. It wasn't offered at all times, though. It included two rides on the Cyclone.

Chillforce! Welcome back, Ed.

I knew I smelled something familiar this morning!

Agreed. I'd also put that trailer mounted Top Spin 2 up there against *any* flat ride experience I have ever had. All that was missing was a Top Scan.

If it doesn't rain for 45 days through July and August as it did last year, I believe Luna is going to be a runaway hit. Zamperla has a very solid mix of attractions going into the Astroland site- from a Spinning Mouse coaster to a used Log Flume (from Fun Forest in Seattle- the only used ride in the park) to a new crazy looking prototype in the Air Race to another dozen or so proven flats for all ages. Keeping the gate free was key as Coney would not accept a gate fee.

Don't be a stranger Ed. Feel free to "pass on by" anytime.
The New Yorkers that posted on the NY Daily news do not seem too pleased with the Luna Park sneak peek.

I like the fact that the park is playing homage to its past by naming The Spinning Mouse the Tickler.
..Now if only they could bring back the Reel.. :-)
