LIM Launch Coaster height issues...

I've found that under some circumstances, when I try to build the coaster back down to earth, it ends up half a slope above ground, and I can't complete the ride? (i.e. when you try to join up the last pieces, the ends are slightly different heights and won't connect). I think it might be to do with the length of the pieces in the vertical twists, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this issue, and is there a simple work-around?

They said that you're supposed to use an even number of vertical track pieces...I usually forget about that but I get lucky.
