"There was an error loading the game"

Hi. I'm writing on behalf of someone who's been having problems with RCT3. Having finally got the install to run, he started getting an error message when running the game off the autorun. After pressing "play", he gets a message saying "There was an error launching the game". I already told him to download the latest version of DirectX, and to check his graphics card compatability, but I was wondering if anybody had any other advice as to what could be done?
