Edit button

Is there any thought to getting an edit button and edit functions for this board? I noticed this feature in other boards and it came in handy sometimes.

Chris,
I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about whether I should put an edit option into the boards. Occassionally, it's asked for as you did, but I think the conclusion to my thinking was the potential problems out weigh the benefit.
Edit could allow a user to post something innappropriate, but remove it before it could be seen by the moderator. Also, you could say something and later change what you said for a variety of reasons. The problem starts with the replies, since an edited message may change how the replies read. Ever been in an argument with someone over what they said, but they now deny it? Also, if someone quoted you, how would you revise the quotes to reflect your updated statement.
Some boards allow you to edit, but only within a limited time period of say 20 minutes. This is really no different than the "preview" option we currently have. I encourage users to check their work with the Preview option before posting. If there is still an error you can follow-up to your original message with a reply. I sometimes make manual edits on the board to correct mistakes.
My model for these message boards has been newsgroups. As with any public newgroup you'll find that edit and delete don't exist.
If you can think of another really good reason, please tell me. I'm open to suggestions and may very well change my mind.

It makes sense. The board I post of for wrestling has it but as part of the board rules one of the reasons for being banned is editing a post purposly to make other look bad. I think if the moderator(s) see(s) this then they warn them. I can understand how it might not be worth the trouble. Thanks for the clarification.
