Poor Leaflets This Year

Every year I collect the theme park leaflets from my local Tourist Information. This year, I feel, is one of the worst yet for leaflets.

Alton Towers' leaflet doesn't have a map and Thorpe Park SHARES its leaflet with Chessington!

What's the Blackpool Pleasure Beach one like?

It's not that important. I just hope the money is being spent on good new rides. AT, TP and CWOA all charge about 20 to get in, don't they?

Graeme.

I think it's reflected in the whole attitude of UK Theme Parks this year. They all seem a bit "couldn't care less" about new rides. OK Valhalla will be mighty impressive, but it's just a flume ride with a backward drop. As for Chessington, well, if Beanoland is all they can offer, then I think I'll give that place a miss. Thorpe park has a new water ride this year - but what that place really needs is a decent coaster. AT gives us a haunted swing - why bother when Drayton Manor Park has one? In fact DMP is slowly beginning to better all the other parks in the area.

I agree. I want to do Valhalla but not nearly as much as I'd want to do a new coaster. The only major coaster opening this year in the UK (Magnum Force) is second-hand! What does that tell you?

What's Magnum Force - who's having it and when?

It's the old Dreier Looping travelling coaster - it used to do the German fairs and then spent a few years in Malaysia. Flamingoland's bought it now and it's being sponsored by Walls (the original plan was Gilette - it would've been called Mach 3). It's a Schwarzkopf and as I've done two of his other great travellers, Thriller and Olympia Looping, I don't doubt that this will be a great ride. If it's not already open it should be soon.

And I've heard it has car-like seatbelts instead of solid bars! There should be no head-banging at all.

Like rally harnesses,I've been told. Aparently,it originally only had lap-bars :)

Thanks everyone!
I think I rode this a couple of years back in a huge funfair in Paris.
If I remember rightly the first drop lifts your belly into your mouth.

There's no headbanging on Schwarzkopfs anyway, shame on you!

That doesn't surprise me. Those steeply angled Schwarzkopf first drops are among the most heart-rending on any ride anywhere.

OK, I forgot Schwarzkopfs don't usually have over-the-shoulder restraints, but you know theme parks - they could have added them!

I've never had headbanging on a Vekoma or anything else, anyway. I've been on both our Corkscrews and Boomerangs, aswell as Pinfari looping coasters.

I know AT's Corkscrew IS rough, as people I trust have told me so.

I think it's because I'm tall. I could barely fit into TRAUMAtizer seats! They were "snug".

It's true shorter people suffer more from headbanging as their head is right between the restraints rather than above them. I'm 5'7" so I get banging on some rides but not others. Corkscrew isn't that bad, although the one at Flamingoland is much smoother.

And you're right, some Schwarzkopfs have had overheads added, but they're all really smooth. Anton was a genius for building coasters - his rides are all pretty much flawless.

Youre lucky to have the dreier looping. Its wonderful.
And the best thing is, that the first drop does not lead to the loops. There is a second big drop after the first smashing you into the double loop

I am really looking forward to this. After riding Thriller and Olympia Looping I'm expecting really good things of this ride!
