Disney California Adventure park opened as the second gate at the Disneyland Resort on February 8, 2001. Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering in the tradition, fun and magic of classic Disney to capture the allure and beauty of Northern, Central and Southern California with 72 acres of attractions. Among the themed areas is an exciting California beachfront, a Hollywood–inspired district, an area celebrating the state's natural beauty and diverse cultures, a street recreating Los Angeles from the early 1920s and the newest area – Cars Land – based on the characters from the Disney-Pixar animated feature Cars.
