The first of its kind in the United States, Journey to Atlantis incorporates the elements of a roller coaster and water ride and is the park's fourth roller coaster. The distinguishing feature of this attraction is that riders enjoy part of the roller coaster while traveling backward. At the top of the first hill, boats rotate up to 360 degrees offering riders a view of downtown San Antonio and SeaWorld. Riders are then propelled backwards down the first hill and up a reverse camelback. The boats then rotate another 45 degrees and take a final plunge, splashing down into a lake and passing by geysers and water spouts. Journey to Atlantis is located on 3 acres between SeaWorld's VIVA! and the Nautilus Amphitheater.
